You do not need much for a night in the desert, and that is part of the pleasure. Towels, bedding, soap and hot water are all waiting in your tent. What follows is what you should bring in your own bag.
Clothing
Think in layers. The temperature difference between three in the afternoon and five in the morning can be more than twenty degrees, in any season.
- Loose, light long sleeves and trousers — better than shorts against sun and sand
- A warm layer for the evening, all year round, and a proper jacket from October to March
- A scarf: for sun, for wind, and for tying as a turban (we will show you how)
- Sunglasses and a hat
- Swimwear only if your itinerary includes a pool elsewhere — there is no pool at camp
Footwear
Closed shoes or trainers for arriving and for quad biking, and sandals or flip-flops for camp. Many guests end up barefoot on the dunes, which is the most comfortable option once the sand has cooled.
The three things guests forget
- A head-torch. Camp is lit, but the dunes are not, and you will want to walk out at night.
- Lip balm and moisturiser. The air here is extremely dry.
- A dust-proof bag for your camera. Fine sand finds everything.
For photographers
A tripod and a fast wide lens will transform your night shots. Bring more battery than you think — cold winter nights drain them quickly — and a blower rather than a cloth for cleaning sand off glass.
What not to bother with
A hairdryer, heavy luggage, and a large supply of bottled water. We have power, we can help with your bags, and there is drinking water at camp throughout your stay.
