Sandboarding

Sandboarding is the easiest thing to say yes to in Merzouga. The boards belong to the camp, they cost you nothing, and the dune starts a two-minute walk from your tent.

No lesson required

If you have ever been on a snowboard you will be standing up on the first run. If you have not, sit down on the board and go — that is how most of our guests do it, and it is genuinely fun.

Our team waxes the boards, shows you where the safest slope is that day, and helps children get started. Falling is part of it and the sand is soft.

Best time of day

Late afternoon is ideal: the sand has cooled, the light is low and the dune faces are in shadow. Many guests do a few runs before the camel ride, then a few more after breakfast the next morning.

Highlights

  • Boards and wax provided free for camp guests
  • Dune slope two minutes from the tents
  • Great for children and complete beginners
  • Best late afternoon and early morning

Good to know

  • Sunglasses are worth wearing — sand does get thrown up.
  • Climbing back up is the workout; take water with you.
  • Ask at reception and we will hand you a board at any time during your stay.
